As you all have read in my previous post, I got started on using essential oils for my cluster migraines.  Well as an Independent Consultant for Young Living Essential Oils I hear a lot about personal concerns about your medical history.  Working in the medical field for almost 10 years there is nothing I haven't seen, heard, smelt or had on me so nothing is too graphic for me.  What I am finding is many people (including myself for some) are simply uneducated on what essential oils are.  So I would like to take one or two days a week to hit the alphabet of oils to help us all better understand how Young Living may help you, your family, or someone you know. 
So essential oils are defined in the dictionary as "any of a class of volatile oils obtained from plants, possessing the odor and other characteristic properties of the plant, used chiefly in the manufacture of perfumes, flavors, and pharmaceuticals."

Oils under $20.00 for the winter season

I have my "go to" oils that I will always keep on my nightstand (Peppermint, Lavender, Stress Away, and PanAway), in the bathroom (pretty much the same as above but add Bergamot, Patchouli, Lemon, and a few misc blends I have created), and on the go in my purse.  I am always trying to grow my stock to make new blends and creations with them, and these are so affordable that I can just add one at a time each month.   
As the weather is cooling down (well should be...it was almost 90 out today) there are a few underdogs that are offered which are all less than $20.00 and are perfect for the upcoming season. These are just a few I wanted to highlight on tonight's post...

Black Pepper has a pungent yet crisp aroma that is energizing. It is one that is supportive of the digestive system and is useful topically for soothing muscle discomfort following exercise.  It can be mixed with Naked Salve or lotion (one drop per application) to warm your freezing fingers and toes.  Great for the hunter when he comes home, you don't want to send him out with any scent on him, or after shoveling snow or raking the leaves. Black pepper may also be used to enhance the flavor of foods.  It's $18.75 for 5ml!!!!

Clove has a sweet and spicy fragrance that is stimulating and revitalizing. An important ingredient in our Young Living Thieves blend due to its wonderful immune-enhancing properties, its principal constituent is eugenol, which is used in the dental industry to numb the gums. Clove is the highest-scoring single ingredient ever tested for its antioxidant capacity on the ORAC scale. Always dilute for topical use. Clove may also be used to enhance the flavor of foods. It is $15.25 for a 15ml!!!

Cedarwood has a warm and woodsy aroma.  It is relaxing and soothing so it is often used for massage purposes, and has long been used as a beneficial ingredient in cosmetic preparations for oily skin.  Many people use it to help them fall asleep when they don't have Lavender on hand.  It is also one of the key ingredients in most ADHD blends. It is $11.25 for a 15ml!!! (This photo is not my own and I am not affiliated with the website, just thought it was adorable!)

Cypress is especially great to have on hand during the winter season. Its fresh and slightly evergreen aroma is refreshing and restores feelings of security and stability. Many use this in a Christmas Diffusing Blend. Cypress is also beneficial for oily or troubled skin.  It is $19.25 for a 15ml!!!

Eucalyptus Blue has a fresh and invigorating aroma that supports normal breathing and soothes tense muscles. This essential oil is grown and harvested in Ecuador and is an important ingredient in the Young Living Breathe Again™ Roll On. This essential oil contains high levels of the powerful constituents eucalyptol and alpha-pinene. It is $15 for a 5ml!!!
Eucalyptus Globulus has a fresh penetrating scent. It contains a high percentage of the constituent eucalyptol, a key ingredient in many mouth rinses. Applied topically it is often used to support the respiratory system* and to soothe muscles after exercise. It's $14.50 for a 15ml!!!
Eucalyptus Radiata is cooling, refreshing and energizing. Lighter in smell than Eucalyptus globulus, it has many of the same supportive properties . Since it is relatively gentle and nonirritating, it is the preferred choice for children. This variety is one of the most versatile of the eucalyptus oils and is suitable for topical use, diffusing, and even direct inhalation. It has long been an ingredient in some of Young Living's most popular blends. It's $18.50 for a 15ml!!! (Again, not one of my pictures, but this is a site I visit often.  Great info for my fellow oilers!)

Purification can be used directly on the skin to cleanse and soothe insect bites, cuts, and scrapes. When diffused, it helps to purify and cleanse the air from environmental impurities including cigarette smoke and other disagreeable odors.  When we diffuse it before a guest comes over, we are always complimented on the fresh smell of the house.  I also know many who drop a few drops in air vents while traveling to help with hotel room smells. It is $18.75 for a 15ml!!!

Wintergreen has a sweet minty scent which is one of my favorite smells ever. The oil is distilled from the small evergreen herb's leaves. The refreshing, clean taste of wintergreen has made it a favorite in flavoring numerous products. Wintergreen contains the same active ingredient (methyl salicylate) as birch and is beneficial in massage for soothing head tension and muscles after exercising. I use it in my pain cream blend or alone when my knees are acting up. It is $17.75 for a 15ml!!!

Oils & Infertility

As you may have read in my last post, I have struggled with infertility since being diagnosed with ovarian/cervical cancer.  I will start with my disclaimer before I start my education that these options won't help me get pregnant, but have helped me stay balanced since.  I believe that it may help others of you in your battle, and as someone who has suffered just like you, I wanted to offer some alternative options available to you.

There are several single oils, blends, supplements, and body care serums and creams that can help with infertility.  I have learned that everyone responds differently to various oils.  If I find I don’t get the physical or emotional response I’m looking for with one, I choose another.  The beauty with oils is that they are used for more than one purpose.  So just because it may not help you with one thing, doesn't mean it won't work for a different use.  The following are the recommendations from the Essential Oil Pocket Reference.

Single Oils:

Sage has the ability to strengthen the senses and vital centers of the body and to support metabolism.  It also supports the respiratory, reproductive, nervous, and other body systems.

Fennel is energizing, vitalizing, and balancing. It is stimulating to the circulatory, glandular, respiratory, and digestive systems.  It also may support feelings of well-being during the menstrual cycle.

Clary Sage according to the Reference Guide, “recent medical data indicates that it naturally raises estrogen and progesterone levels.”  Not only that but it’s fragrant influence is that it enhances your ability to dream, is calming and stress-relieving.

Blends:

Dragon Time™ is a blend of calming and soothing essential oils.  This blend includes clary sage, which contains natural phytoestrogens, which makes it the perfect choice for women’s emotions during special times and needs.

Mister™ is beneficial to men. It also helps promote greater inner-body balance and many have found it soothing when stressed.

My Decision

Today I want to get a little personal and tell you more about what has driven me to launch my own business.  To help you see the big picture I need to take you back a few years, which has been an emotional roller coaster for me.  I will try to make a long story short!
A few years ago I was progressively loosing weight and having terrible pains in my stomach.  I would just dismiss it as being under too much stress.  At that time, I was working full time in a hospital on swing shifts while putting myself through nursing school.  Well, it finally grabbed my attention one day at work when I collapsed in pain.  One of the doctors on the unit came over and checked me out, immediately sending me down for testing.  We found that I had two golf ball sized tumors on my left ovary.  We did surgery to remove them and I have been cancer free since!  Praise God!!
When I went for my two week check up I was informed that I no longer had my left ovary and the cells had spread to other places, making my chances of getting pregnant 2%.  At the time it was not as devastating to me because I was single and it wasn't in my plans yet.  I figured I would cross that bridge when it came time. 
Zoom ahead a few years I am married to the most amazing man I have ever known, next to my father and grandfather, and it was time to cross that bridge.  We decided that we wanted to start trying right away.  Not expecting anything to happen with my low chances, two months later I found out I was pregnant.  At 11 weeks we lost the baby.  I was told I just didn't produce enough hormones to carry the child and we decided to start the medication to replace what I couldn't make.  Now any woman that has taken hormone replacement I tip my hat to you!  I was in first class on the crazy train and we were going full steam ahead.  Looking back I do not understand how my husband was still willing to keep me around.  After six months of that we did a few more tests and decided to try fertility treatments.  We got pregnant two more times, both resulting in miscarriages. 
After that I couldn't do it anymore.  I couldn't keep taking these medications that made me not myself, I didn't want to be poked anymore, I hated that everything was timed and no romance, and most of all I hated what everyone had to say.  I couldn't be around people anymore because everyone had an opinion on what I needed to do or what I was doing wrong.  Some of the "favorite" ones were..."you are thinking about it too much, if you stop thinking about it it will happen. That's what happened with my niece." And "you aren't praying enough and God is just punishing you for it".  Then there was "You need to do IVF because I know someone who knows someone that went through the same thing as you and now they have 5 kids".   I know they were all trying to help, but at the time that is not what I needed to help me get better. 
I went to my final appointment and was told it was time to start thinking of other options.  When I came home to have the talk with my husband, we immediately came to the conclusion that we wanted to adopt.  We talked about what country we wanted, how many to have, and everything adoption related.  We did our research on agencies and made the announcement.  We are currently in the "fundraising" stage of the process.  And on a side note I love how people think that adopting is this easy thing to do.  I have a different view when people say "Oh you can just adopt", these people clearly have no idea how much money and scrutiny goes with the process.
I became an Independent Consultant for Young Living Essential Oils to help make some money to put in our adoption fund.  While going natural with our health we wanted to continue that with everything.  I started making all of our laundry detergent and salves and creams and the whole nine yards.  Then friends wanted to buy some of it and I wanted to start selling it to make more in the adoption fund.  I formed an LLC and am having my Launch Party September 13, 2014!
I know all of this is in Gods hands and I have said from the beginning that if it is meant to be and is our true path, everything will come together so easily without any hiccups or bumps in the road.  My journey creating my business, essentially you. has been easy and bump free.  Sometimes it makes me nervous how smooth this ride is going, but that just means this is all meant to be.  So 100% of our profit from essentially you. will be going into our adoption fund to help us bring home Penelope Grace and Joseph Daniel!

This was a very busy weekend preparing enough "on hand" products to take to the local Vendor shows I will be at, my upcoming Launch Party, and the holiday season that is quickly approaching has been both wonderful and exhausting.  I am not too sure of what the "hot ticket items" will be but here are just a few of my favorites...even though it was hard to choose.

My next favorite is the Powdered Laundry Detergent.  I have very sensitive skin and was forced to use the Free and Clear style detergents.  I was still breaking out all the time with those, so obviously some chemical they were using in them was still too harsh for me.  I only use 1/2 tablespoon on our light colors and a whole tablespoon on my husbands work clothes (he works in Printing Maintenance for a Plastic Company) and they all come out looking better than anything I have ever bought at the stores!  And since it is scent free, I just add a few drops of my favorite Young Living Essential Oils in with it.

After a long day in clinic or shopping or just being on my feet, I LOVE to soak them in a nice Lavender Salt bath.  The scent is amazing and the essential oils absorb in through my feet and in 20 minutes or less the whole weight of the world is lifted!  My husband LOVES to use the Peppermint Salt because it leaves him feeling cooler.  He is on his feet all day in a hot environment and I would recommend the Peppermint for those in that same situation!  And to make life even better, no stinky feet smell in my house anymore.

How we got started

WELCOME and THANK YOU for joining me on the GRAND OPENING of my essentially you. site.  I am excited to share with you some DIY recipes, information, and tips on becoming a healthier you.
Let me tell you how the idea of essentially you. became a reality.  I was diagnosed a few years ago with cluster migraines.  I would get them when the weather shifts drastically from season to season and  when allergy season kicks in.  Living in Southern Indiana, this happens often!  So my doctor prescribed me some medication that I take at the onset of a migraine with the idea it will prevent the migraine from getting worse.  I am allowed 9 pills a month and they are roughly $64 per pill with my insurance.  After two tries and no relief (I actually think they made them worse) I was hopping on the Internet to look into other options.
I came across a pin on Pinterest about Peppermint Essential Oils helping with headaches. I somewhat dismissed it and went about life since it was the end of my migraine season.  As we approached Spring, my husband and I were out shopping and I came across a display of Essential Oils.  I saw the Peppermint was on sale and figured it was cheaper than my medication that didn't work so why not.  Then the waiting period came and I finally got my first migraine coming on.  I go get my Peppermint Oil and put a drop behind each ear and one on the nape of my neck.  Within 3 minutes my headache was going away and I had a wonderful cooling sensation on my head!  It was a win/win situation in my book.  The next headache came a few days later and I had the same results. 
I then decided that I wanted to try another oil and I chose to do the Lemon, Lavender, and Peppermint blended together which is the Zyrtec replacement.  This worked wonderfully and there was another medication to cross off my list.  At this point I was so excited that I am saving extra money and feeling better all around.  I made the decision right then and there that I was going chemical free in my house.  After more research I learned that even though some companies advertise that they are 100% Essential Oils, they are not!  I came across Young Living Essential Oils which are therapeutic grade oils.  These are the top shelf in the oil community.  They are so pure you can ingest them and the other companies I looked at advise you not to ingest them at all and that you actually need to call poison control if you do.  I became an Independent Consultant immediately and now use my Young Living Oils on a daily basis. 
That's where the essentially you. idea came about.  I wanted to help everyone I knew become a healthier version of themselves and to save money by ditching the drug store and reaching instead for something that the good Lord gave us.  The essentially you. line is all natural, hand crafted, quality products for you and your home!   I am so blessed to be able to share them with the rest of you, and cannot thank my friends and family enough for helping me on my journey!
